Washington D.C. Area guard Xavier Johnson commits Pitt

Two weeks after de-committing from Nebraska, 3-star combo guard Xavier Johnson has pledged to Pittsburgh. This is the second commit of Jeff Capel’s tenure at the program; last week, 4-star guard Trey McGowens committed to Pitt, too. Both players are in the 2018 class.

Originally, Johnson committed to Nebraska last November. Creighton, NC State, Georgetown and Georgia Tech are among the other schools to offer Johnson.

Quick Speculation

A few weeks back, Capel completed his coaching staff, which included Charleston assistant coach Milan Brown. It was pointed out by Mike Wilson of Cardiac Hill that Brown has experience and recruiting ties in the Mid-Atlantic region. Well, it just so happens that Xavier Johnson hails from the Washington D.C. area.

The 6-foot-3 guard played his prep ball at Bishop O’Connell in Arlington, Virginia. This is the same high school that produced for North Carolina guards Marcus Ginyard and Kendall Marshall. More recently, former Maryland guard Melo Trimble arrived in College Park via Bishop O’Connell.
