On Wednesday, the ACC Board of Governors announced its plans for a fall sports season, which included the 2020 football scheduling model, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. For full details on that, check here.
The entire schedule — or at least what exists of it at this point — is embedded below. Here, however, we’ll take a quick look at the schedules for the four North Carolina-based ACC teams inside the league’s 10-plus-one model. As of right now: dates, times and television networks are largely unknown to the public.
It should probably go without saying, too, but all four NC teams will play against one another at some point in the season. (Again, this assumes a full season is able to take place.) The season’s first games will take place the week of Sept. 7-12.
Note: Away games are marked with (A)
North Carolina
- NC State
- Notre Dame
- Syracuse
- Virginia Tech
- Wake Forest
- Boston College (A)
- Duke (A)
- Florida State (A)
- Miami (A)
- Virginia (A)
- Non-conference
Quick Take
- North Carolina manages to avoid Clemson, but will take on Notre Dame
- UNC was set to play Auburn Sept. 12 in one of the 2020 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games; however, that’s almost certainly off the table. Given the new parameters, North Carolina will only play Auburn if the Tigers agree to another game in the state of North Carolina. When the SEC announces its own model, though, this could change, too
- Matchups with Miami (away) and Virginia Tech (home) will allow Sam Howell and the rest of North Carolina’s offensive skill to go against some of the best defensive talent the league has to offer — outside of Clemson, obviously
NC State
- Duke
- Florida State
- Georgia Tech
- Miami
- Wake Forest
- North Carolina (A)
- Pitt (A)
- Syracuse (A)
- Virginia (A)
- Virginia Tech (A)
- Non-conference
Quick Take
- Um, so, yeah, I don’t know how else to say this: the schedule broke in super-fortunate fashion for NC State. (Yeah, I’m surprise, too.)
- Amazingly, NC State will avoid Clemson, Notre Dame and Louisville; the Wolfpack were supposed to open the 2020 season against the Cardinals — in a Wednesday night game (Sept. 2). If a season is able to start and finish, this sets up nicely for NC State
- NC State also gets Miami and Florida State in Raleigh, which is potentially big
Wake Forest
- Clemson
- Miami
- Notre Dame
- Virginia
- Virginia Tech
- Duke (A)
- Louisville (A)
- North Carolina (A)
- NC State (A)
- Syracuse (A)
- Non-conference (A)
Quick Take
- This is a tough break for Wake Forest. As the Demon Deacons look to pivot in the post-Jamie Newman era, they will face several powerful defenses: Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame
- For all three of its matchups with in-state ACC foes, Wake Forest will have to travel to Duke, NC State and North Carolina
Duke
- Boston College
- Florida State
- North Carolina
- Virginia Tech
- Wake Forest
- Georgia Tech (A)
- NC State (A)
- Notre Dame (A)
- Syracuse (A)
- Virginia (A)
- Non-conference
Quick Take
- Similar to NC State and UNC, Duke also avoid Clemson
- Duke has a talented defensive line, led by Chris Rumph II; the Blue Devils will get to try that out against several programs breaking in new quarterbacks, like Virginia and Wake Forest
