Former Coppin State shooting guard Sterling Smith has selected Pitt as his transfer destination, according to multiple reports. As a graduate transfer, Smith will be eligible to play for the Panthers next season.
As a junior, Smith led Coppin State in scoring with 13.9 points per game and also pulled down 4.9 rebounds per game. He started 27 of 31 games for the Eagles this past season.
Georgia Tech, Louisville and Wake Forest were among the other schools that had pursued Smith this offseason.
The addition of Smith will leave Pitt with just one available scholarship for the 2015-16 season, but that number will grow to two should Joseph Uchebo leave the program. Uchebo received his undergraduate degree in December and has not officially announced his future plans.
