Bubble Watch: Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh dodged a bullet on Tuesday night when it clawed its way to a 101-96 double-overtime victory over Wake Forest. With the win, the Panthers improved their record to above .500 in ACC play, but a loss could’ve had a far more negative impact.

Had Pitt dropped its matchup against the Demon Deacons, the team would be 0-4 in the month of February. Just a year ago, a four-game losing streak to end the regular season and the ACC Tournament crushed any hopes of an NCAA tournament berth, and a loss Tuesday would’ve put Jamie Dixon’s squad on a similar path.

At this point, however, the Panthers are still in the conversation to make the Big Dance, albeit as a bubble team at the moment. Whether or not they find themselves as part of the field next month will depend on how the next three-and-a-half weeks play out.
