NC State adds versatile offensive piece Demie Sumo to 2021 class

NC State football added a versatile offensive piece to its 2021 recruiting class with the commitment of 3-star running back Demie Sumo.

The 6-foot, 202-pound Sumo does a little bit of everything for Willingboro (NJ) High. During the 2019 season, Sumo ran for 648 yards and 11 touchdowns — on 65 carries. Sumo also hauled in 21 receptions for 430 yards (20.5 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns. He does more than just offense, though; Sumo also recorded two interceptions and two fumble recoveries on the defensive side of the ball.

As NC State looks to rediscover position-less magic on offense — post Eliah Drinkwitz, Jaylen Samuels and Nyheim Hines — Sumo looks like a strong addition. A 3-star prospect, 247 Sports slots the New Jersey native (a strong recruiting territory for NC State under Dave Doeren) as the No. 75 running back in the 2021 class.

Ace recruiter George McDonald, NC State’s wide receivers coach, led Sumo’s recruitment for the Wolfpack. Sumo had other offers from Buffalo, Toledo and Temple.
