Back in May, 5-star wing MJ Rice announced his decision to transfer from Durham (NC) Academy to Oak Hill Academy. Rice, who is in the process of recovering from an ACL tear (Dec. 2019), will team up with fellow 2022 5-star prospects Dior Johnson and Zion Cruz. Johnson, a top-five prospect in the 2022 class, committed to Syracuse in February
It hasn’t taken long for Rice to become one of the more coveted 2022 recruits among several ACC programs. NC State offered Rice a scholarship back in February. Pittsburgh, led by Jeff Capel (who sent his kids to Durham Academy when he was an assistant at Duke), Boston College and Wake Forest have also offered Rice, according to 247 Sports.
More recently, Chris Mack and Louisville offered Rice, too. Over the last five weeks — since June 15 — Rice’s recruitment has continued to rise. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Rice checks in as the No. 22 overall prospect in 247 Sports composite rankings.
Other power programs like Duke, Ohio State and Indiana have been in touch with Rice.
During the 2019-20 season with DA, prior to the injury, Rice averaged 25 points and nine rebounds per game. While Rice continues to rehab, he’s set to report to Oak Hill on Aug. 23.
