In the fall of 2016, things looked on the up and up for Pitt football. The Panthers completed an 8-4 regular season with a second place finish in the ACC Coastal.
Pitt was a last-second Mitch Trubisky touchdown pass at North Carolina, and a field goal against Virginia Tech, away from representing the Coastal in the ACC Championship. The Panthers were the only team in America to take down eventual national champion Clemson. Pitt finished out the regular season with three impressive wins over the Tigers, along with Duke and Syracuse. They scored a whopping 175 points in that trio of contests.
