With Virginia Tech’s decision to move on from Justin Fuente, after six seasons, a new coaching search must begin. There’s some buzz that Virginia Tech AD Whit Babcock may look in the ACC for his replacement, too.
According to ESPN college football insider Adam Rittenberg, who was on the ACC Network this morning, Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson could be a possible candidate.
On Packer & Durham, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN just mentioned Dave Clawson as a possible candidate if Virginia Tech looks to poach the ACC. Wes Durham said he's heard the rumors about VT's interest in Clawson.
Your dream might actually come true, @joshwgoodson.

Of course, Clawson and Wake Forest (9-1) are in the midst of a dream season in Winston-Salem. The Demon Deacons rank 13th in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll. Wake Forest rebounded from its only loss of the season — at UNC — with a home win over NC State, which provides the inside track to another Atlantic Division title.
While the Clawson-to-VT train seems unlikely, it’s interesting to see Clawson’s name pop up in this type of conversation. That’s obviously about to starting happening more; coaching carousel season is essentially starting now, and Clawson will be in demand. Fuente was a big chip to fall, especially within the landscape of the ACC.
