It came down to three schools for 3-star defensive end Derrick McLendon: Florida State, Florida and NC State. Florida was his first offers — nearly two years ago; the Wolfpack came on strong more recently — he hails from Georgia, one of NC State’s top recruiting areas. He visited the Raleigh campus two weeks ago, too.
However, in the end: Florida State won out — landing the 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end.

According to 247 Sports Composite rankings, Derrick McClendon rates as the No. 371 prospect in the nation and one of the top 40 players in Georgia.
McClendon becomes the 13th commit of Florida State’s 2019 recruiting class, and the third from the state of Georgia. His commitment could also bump FSU’s class up to a top 10 ranking. Prior to his decision, the Seminoles ranked 12th in the FBS, per 247 Sports.
