The University of Miami reached into its gloried past to help in the hiring of a new football coach.
Heisman Trophy winner Vinny Testaverde has been added to the school’s search advisory committee along with former Miami linebacker Jonathan Vilma. Other members of the advisory committee include Board of Trustees members Hilarie Bass, David Epstein and Steve Saiontz; and deputy director of athletics Jennifer Strawley.
Testaverde, whose son Vincent is a back-up for the Hurricanes, played 21 seasons in the NFL. Vilma played on Miami’s last national championship team in 2001 and was a three-time Pro Bowler.
Miami has also hired Korn/Ferry, a search firm, which helped Stan Van Gundy become president and coach of the Detroit Pistons, Jim Harbaugh as coach at Michigan and Charlie Strong as coach at Texas.
”We are well underway in our search process,” Miami athletic director Blake James said. ”And, as expected, there is already a tremendous amount of interest in ‘The U.”’
