Miami running back and first-team All-ACC player Duke Johnson joined The David Glenn Show during this year’s ACC Football Kickoff. Johnson ran for 920 yards and six touchdowns last season before going down with a season-ending ankle injury against the Seminoles.
After starting 7-0 last season, Miami was looking for its first ACC championship appearance. Following Johnson’s injury in the FSU game, Miami dropped three straight and lost in its bowl game against Louisville.
Johnson spoke of his ankle injury recently on the show in saying, “I think I can overcome it with no problem.” Johnson, never having to overcome a serious injury in his football career, stated that he’s “overcome a lot in my life bigger than an injury.”
But, with a healed ankle, Duke Johnson and the Hurricanes look to build on last season and make it to Charlotte for the ACC Championship Game. When asked if he thought Miami would top the Coastal Division this year, he responded by saying, “I think this could be the year. There’s a good possibility.” To make it to that championship game, Johnson says “it all depends on how much we want it as a team and how ready are our backups.”
