Miami picked up its first basketball pledge in the 2016 class on August 10, as 6-11 center Rodney Miller of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia chose the Hurricanes. Miller also considered Miami’s ACC rivals Wake Forest and Virginia, as well as several other programs such as St. John’s and Seton Hall.
A consensus 4-star recruit, Miller is listed as the No. 93 prospect nationally in the Rivals 150 in the 2016 class, as well as the No. 16 center prospect nationally in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 5 senior in the state of Virginia.
Miami head coach Jim Larranaga and his staff kept a close eye on Miller throughout the spring and summer while he played with his New York Lightning AAU squad. Miller took an official visit to Coral Gables in May, setting up the Canes to be the team to beat in his recruitment.
Miller is an emerging big man who should provide Miami with a capable frontcourt addition.
