It took former Miami coach Al Golden about 100 days to get another football job.
Golden’s journey will take him to the NFL where the Detroit Lions hired him as a tight ends coach.
Fired Oct. 25 after a 58-0 loss to eventual national runner-up Clemson, Golden went 32-25 at Miami. He inherited the Nevin Shapiro mess – without his knowledge – and it cast a shadow over much of his tenure. Miami started 3-0 but a 34-23 loss at Cincinnati greased the skids. The Hurricanes played inspired against Florida State and lost 29-24, then followed up with a 30-20 win over Georgia Tech.
Then came Clemson.
Golden was rumored as a potential defensive coordinator at a couple of colleges. He also reportedly interviewed with the Dallas Cowboys.
While much of Golden’s coaching background is on the defensive side, he did play the position at Penn State and one year with the New England Patriots in the NFL.
