Just a couple weeks after Chad Kelly was dismissed from Clemson’s football program, the coaching staff appears to have found a solution to the depth issues at the quarterback position. David Olson, who played at Stanford over the last four years, is transferring back to the East Coast and will be eligible to play for the Tigers this fall as a redshirt senior.
With Olson on the roster, Dabo Swinney will have four scholarship quarterbacks this season. Senior Cole Stoudt will enter preseason practices as the starter, while it’s unclear what Deshaun Watson’s role will be during his first season at the collegiate level. Nick Schuessler, a former walk-on, could see some time in mop-up duty.
Olson did not attempt a pass while at Stanford. As a senior last season, his only game action came toward the end of a blowout at Washington State.
