For the second time in four years, a Clemson player received ACC player of the year honors when Deshaun Watson was named the recipient of this year’s award on Wednesday. As a sophomore this season, the quarterback led the Tigers to a 12-0 finish in the regular season, shredding defenses both with his arm and legs.
While Florida State running back Dalvin Cook was the only real threat to beat out Watson for conference player of the year, the Clemson signal-caller will have more competition for a bigger award. This year’s Heisman Trophy winner will be named later this month, and Watson is one of several potential candidates hoping to get an invitation to New York.
