Clemson’s Shaq Anthony to transfer

Clemson right tackle Shaq Anthony has decided to transfer, the school announced Thursday. The redshirt junior played in 17 games over the last two seasons, starting five of them.

“I have enjoyed my time at Clemson and appreciate the opportunity I’ve had,” Anthony said in a statement.  “This is an outstanding program, but I wish to make a clean start at a program where I can hopefully be a starter.  I want to thank all the Clemson coaches, my teammates and the Clemson family for their support.  I will always be a Tiger.”

The tackle position was a concern for the Tigers coming out the spring, but Isaiah Battle and Joe Gore have since emerged as virtual locks to start in the Aug. 30 opener at Georgia. While Anthony’s departure may not have a major impact on the first team, questions remain from a depth standpoint. Redshirt freshman Maverick Morris could see a larger role this fall as a result.
