Clemson makes another splash in 2017 recruiting

Clemson is reaping the benefits of its run to the College Football Playoff National Championship game, as the program is once again assembling a recruiting class loaded with elite talent. The Tigers landed another highly sought-after junior on Monday when consensus 4-star defensive back LeAnthony Williams gave his verbal commitment to Dabo Swinney’s staff.

A native of Georgia, Williams plays for Roswell High School, which is the same football powerhouse that produced former Clemson cornerback Martin Jenkins as well as 2016 mid-year enrollee Tre Lamar. The 6-0, 170-pound prospect is rated the No. 17 cornerback in his class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Before committing to the Tigers, Williams was also a target of other ACC programs, including Louisville, Miami and North Carolina. He is the second defensive back in the class of 2017 to pick Clemson, joining Calhoun, Georgia, safety Baylon Spector.
