UNC in the top 7 for 5-star 2021 C Chet Holmgren

Chet Holmgren, one of the top prospects in the 2021 recruiting class, has narrowed his list of schools down to seven. North Carolina is one of those seven programs, and the lone representative of the ACC.

The other six teams on Holmgren’s list include Michigan, Ohio State, Minnesota, Georgetown, Gonzaga and Memphis. There will certainly be plenty of competition for the 7-foot, 190-pound Holmgreen; 247 Sports ranks the 5-star center (with his 7-foot-4 wingspan) as the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2021 class.

Holmgreen is preparing for his senior season at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis. If 5-star forward Jonathan Kuminga were to officially reclassify to 2020 — long expected — then Holmgren would jump to the No. 1 prospect in the class.

Holmgren already took an official visit to Gonzaga last October. The week prior, Holmgren had an official visit at Ohio State, too. Holmgren’s father, Dave, played at Minnesota in the 1980s.

North Carolina already has one 2021 commitment on the books: 4-star in-state forward Dontrez Styles, who pledged back in April this year.
