UNC’s Cam’Ron Kelly ruled immediately eligible for the 2019

Only a few days out from the season opener against South Carolina, and the relaunch of Mack Brown in Chapel Hill, North Carolina Football received major news. Defensive back Cam’Ron Kelly is immediately eligible for the Tar Heels; the NCAA approved his waiver request.

After initially committing to Virginia Tech last summer, Kelly, a 4-star prospect flipped his commitment to Auburn. He enrolled at Auburn in January of this year, but decided to transfer to UNC in April. On Wednesday, the NCAA approved his waiver for immediate eligibility. Kelly will play on Saturday against the Gamecocks.

South Carolina, in terms of S&P-plus, projects out as a top-20 offense. Kelly could certainly help on Saturday in Charlotte. But beyond that, though, he add size (6-foot-1), talent and depth to North Carolina’s secondary, which is much needed. Kelly is now a very important piece for UNC and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman. (Word out of fall camp in Chapel Hill has been quite positive surrounding the team’s defense, too.)
