New Syracuse staff loses old commitment

Last July, Scott Shafer and his staff made an early addition to their 2017 recruiting class by picking up a commitment from in-state linebacker Isaiah McDuffie. Fast forward 10 months, and with a new staff in town, McDuffie is opening things back up.

McDuffie announced on social media Tuesday night that he has decommitted from the Orange.

It’s not the first time one of Shafer’s former commitments reopened his recruitment after Dino Babers and his assistants took over. After Babers left Bowling Green in December to become Syracuse’s head coach, the team’s 2016 class underwent a total reconstruction in the two months leading up to Signing Day.

With McDuffie no longer on board, the only 2017 prospects committed to the Orange were recruited by Babers’ staff.

McDuffie, who is a native of Buffalo, New York, is rated the No. 56 outside linebacker in his class and the No. 5 rising senior in his state, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
