Immediate return

In September, cautious fans always look for signs that their team’s success is a mirage.

Miami supporters wary of buying the hype about Miami’s revamped defense probably had flashbacks when they watched Greg Howell, a running back from Group of Five team Florida Atlantic, slip out of several tackles and rush for a 38-yard touchdown in the teams’ meeting in Week 2. The Miami defenders on the turf, wondering what happened as they craned their necks to the end zone, made those in the stands think of all the missed tackles last year against FAU — and many other, much tougher opponents.

That, however, has been the longest rush play Miami has allowed this season.

It was the longest play of the year.
