FSU defeats UNC in semifinals, set to face Georgia Tech in title match; first time since 1990 without an NC team in ACC final

Behind a double-double performance from sophomore center Balsa Koprivica — 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks — Florida State edged North Carolina in the semifinals of the 2021 ACC Tournament, 69-66.

FSU now advances to the finals, where Georgia Tech awaits. After a gutsy win over Miami, the Yellow Jackets got a bye to the finals following a positive COVID-19 test result within the Virginia program.

This will lead to a little bit of ACC basketball history. For the first time since 1990, the ACC Tournament final won’t have a team from North Carolina in it. That’s a long time ago. In fact, it predates Mike Krzyzewski’s first national title at Duke.

In the 1990 final, which took place in Charlotte, Georgia Tech defeated Virginia; Brian Oliver was named the tournament MVP.
