ESPN shows love toward Clemson position group

With several starters returning from a team that finished 14-1 and appeared in the national title game last season, Clemson will enter this fall among the top teams listed in preseason polls. Some of the Tigers’ position units are gaining some early recognition as well.

A group of ESPN analysts recently produced rankings for different position groups. Topping the list of skill groups for analyst Brock Huard was Clemson. In that area, Dabo Swinney’s squad was ranked ahead of Oklahoma, Houston, Ole Miss and Washington State, which rounded out the top five.

The three key players listed by Huard were quarterback Deshaun Watson, running back Wayne Gallman and wide receiver Artavis Scott, and it makes sense. Watson is arguably the top returning signal-caller in the country, while Gallman and Scott are both dynamic playmakers.

But Clemson’s depth at offensive skill positions goes well beyond that trio.
