Running game a key for Boston College in 2016

Going into the 2015 college football season, it was apparent Boston College’s offense would face its fair share of challenges.

With a new starting quarterback and an inexperienced offensive line, the Eagles were certain to hit some bumps in the road while building chemistry. The struggles became greater as key players were bitten by the injury bug, and by the time October rolled around, BC was fielding an offense that had trouble moving the ball against tall grass.

The running backs group was one unit hit by injuries. Jon Hilliman, who received third-team All-ACC honors in 2014, saw his sophomore campaign end with a broken foot in late September, and Myles Willis was slowed by a banged up shoulder.

Then-junior Tyler Rouse saw the most carries of anyone on the roster, but even he could only make a limited impact on a Boston College offense that failed to score more than 17 points against an FBS opponent.

With Hilliman, Willis and Rouse expected to all be back this fall, the Eagles will be looking for more from the run game.
