Hokies WR Willie Byrn was one of two players to appear at the ACC Kickoff who started their careers without a scholarship. (Wake’s Jordan Garside was the other.)
If you’re interested in telling Byrn’s inspiring story, which took him from walk-on to the face of the Hokies’ offense at this year’s preseason media day, however, he’s not interested.
“I want to try to break the stereotype of the walk-on success story,” Byrn said. “You know, the whole Rudy, ‘Isn’t it adorable?’ story. I want to make plays, not at a walk-on level, but at an ACC level.”
Byrn had 51 catches for 660 yards and two touchdowns last year and is expected to be one of the Hokies’ leaders on offense.
