TECH IN FINAL TWO FOR TAVANTE BECKETT

Virginia Tech is making a push for 3-star linebacker Tavante Beckett, a 6-0, 215-pound member of the class of 2016 at Chesapeake’s Indian River High. The Hokies are in Beckett’s top two, with Wisconsin. East Carolina also has an outside shot at landing him. Clemson, Duke, Miami, NC State and Wake Forest have all recruited Beckett, although he didn’t have offers from any of those ACC rivals.

HOKIES LOSE SIGNEE ERIC WHITEHEAD

Virginia Tech 2015 signee Eric Whitehead was not admitted to school and will not play for the Hokies this year. Whitehead was a 6-1, 300-pound 3-star defensive tackle from Indianapolis, Indiana’s Aresenal Technical. He chose the Hokies over Louisville, among other offers. Whitehead wasn’t able to make the combination of high school grades and standardized test scores to qualify for admission. Instead, he’ll play at Nassau Community College in New York. After he receives an associates degree in two years, he can sign with a four-year school and have two years of eligibility.

GRADES ALSO COST TECH WILLIAMSON

The Hokies lost a second 2015 signee from the same school to grades. Adonis Williamson, a 3-star cornerback from Arsenal Technical, didn’t qualify for admission. The 6-1, 190-pound Williamson will enroll in ASA College in Brooklyn. “It was a hard process, but I’ve got to go through it and learn from it,” Williamson told The Key Play. Williamson hopes to get his degree in a year and a half and enroll in a four-year college early, making him eligible to participate in 2017 spring practice at his new school.

HOKIES STILL WAITING ON SETTLE

While the Hokies have lost two defensive standouts from the class of 2015, they jury is still out on the crown jewel of the class. Tim Settle, a 6-2, 361-pound 4-start tackle from Manassas, Virginia’s Stonewall Jackson High, is waiting to see if he qualifies. He has not yet been admitted to Virginia Tech, according to multiple outlets.
