Tech linebacker suspended, opts to transfer

Georgia Tech starting middle linebacker Anthony Harrell announced via Twitter on Friday that he is transferring to Florida for his fifth and final year of eligibility. The announcement came just over 20 minutes after Georgia Tech shared news by way of its football team’s official Twitter account that Harrell had been suspended from the team indefinitely.

“Yea that’s a lie get your facts right. I’ve chosen to leave and play my fifth year elsewhere,” Harrell tweeted in a response.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Paul Johnson confirmed that Harrell had been suspended for a violation of team rules.

Harrell was listed as the team’s starting middle linebacker coming out of the spring and was in line to fill the void left by All-ACC standout Quayshawn Nealy. Junior Beau Hankins was listed as the backup behind Harrell, while true freshmen Victor Alexander and Brant Mitchell could also compete for time.

As a junior, Harrell logged 19 tackles in 13 games of action. He is expected to be eligible to play right away for Florida as a graduate transfer.
