Georgia Tech has been the most successful program in the ACC’s Coastal Division over the last three seasons, and for the first time since the league split into two divisions in 2005, the Yellow Jackets were picked this July to win the Coastal. With two appearances in the conference championship game and a second-place tie since 2012, the Ramblin’ Wreck has made a habit of surpassing expectations over the last three years, but the team has actually been overachieving throughout the entire Paul Johnson era.
Johnson coached his first season in Atlanta in 2008, leading the Jackets to a 9-4 finish. Despite not making the league title game, the team tied with Virginia Tech for first place in the division standings. Since then, the Jackets have played in three ACC Championship Games — the most of any team in the Coastal over the last six years — and won two of those.
