With DeAndre Smelter and Darren Waller now in the NFL, Georgia Tech will have a lot of production to replace at receiver this season. On Monday, Paul Johnson announced that a new player has entered the mix for playing time at wideout.
Redshirt freshman Jalen Johnson, who began his college career at defensive back, will make the move to receiver. He’ll join a competition that includes Ricky Jeune, Antonio Messick, Harland Howell and others.
Coming out of high school, Johnson was recruited by many schools as a wide receiver. He tore his ACL before his senior season at Oneonta High School in Alabama, but as a junior, he caught 57 passes for 900 yards.
