Just a week after former Yellow Jacket Robert Carter named Maryland as his transfer destination, a former Terrapin forward opted to find a new home at Georgia Tech. Atlanta native Charles Mitchell will remain in the ACC after deciding to head back to his hometown to play for Brian Gregory’s team:
I’m a G tech yellow jacket now. It’s going to feel great playing right at home.

Mitchell averaged 17 points per game during his senior year at Wheeler High School before heading to Maryland. He saw immediate action with the Terps and quickly established himself as a strong rebounder. During his sophomore year, he started 10 games and averaged 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on the year.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mitchell is transferring to be closer to his ailing grandmother, meaning he’ll likely be granted a hardship waiver from the NCAA to play this coming season. He has two years of eligibility remaining and will be a candidate to start for Tech as soon as he steps on the court.
