Florida State is in the lead for 2016 athlete and big-time recruit Steven Smothers. The four-star prospect from Franklin High School in Reisterstown, Md., announced his top five via his Twitter account on Wednesday night.

As you can see, he also listed N.C. State as part of his top five.
Smothers is a 5-11, 155-pound speedster who promises to be one of the biggest playmakers in the 2016 class. While playing wide receiver his sophomore year, he led Franklin to its first state championship in school history.
Smothers is drawing favorable comparisons to former mid-Atlantic prospects such as Tavon Austin (West Virginia) and Stefon Diggs (Maryland). Those two are noted for their big-play potential as kick returners, slot receivers and motion backs.
Florida State is reportedly recruiting Smothers primarily as a running back. Other schools who have offered — such as Ohio State, Georgia, West Virginia and Virginia Tech — have told him they plan to put him on the field in a variety of positions to let him make big plays.
Just a rising junior, Smothers is on record saying he doesn’t plan on making his college decision anytime soon.
