Dalvin Cook’s trial date set

The Tallahassee Democrat reports that Florida State running back Dalvin Cook has a trial date of August 24 for the one count of misdemeanor battery that he’s currently charged with. Florida State suspended the sophomore rusher in July, shortly after the Miami native turned himself in to authorities. Cook allegedly struck a female in the face in late June in a Tallahassee bar.

Last fall, Cook arrived on the scene and immediately became a playmaker in the FSU backfield, rushing for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging nearly six yards per carry. FSU currently has junior Mario Pender, sophomore Johnathan Vickers, and true freshman Jacques Patrick battling for reps at running back in training camp this summer.

Cook faces a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail if convicted of the one count he’s charged with, according to Sports Illustrated, as well as the potential loss of his immediate future on the football field.

Following the controversy of the DeAndre Johnson video earlier this summer — and the subsequent dismissal of the FSU freshman quarterback — a lot of eyes are on the Seminoles to see how they’ll handle a similar case against Cook.
