Duke redshirt senior safety Jeremy Cash received National Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Walter Camp Foundation following the Blue Devils’ 34-20 win over No. 20 Georgia Tech.
A 6-2, 210-pound native of Miami, Florida, Cash spearheaded Duke’s defensive effort with 12 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, two caused fumbles and four QB pressures. Duke held Georgia Tech to 173 rushing yards – 204 below its season average (377.0), which ranked second nationally entering the week – while snapping the Yellow Jackets’ nation’s-best 17-game streak of consecutive outings with 200-plus rushing yards.
Cash is the fifth Duke player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the fourth defensive honoree. For the season, Cash leads the Blue Devils in tackles (34), tackles for loss (8.0), sacks (1.5), caused fumbles (3) and QB pressures (6) as Duke ranks seventh nationally in scoring defense (11.5) and 10th nationally in total defense by surrendering 261.0 yards per week.
