The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has announced that Roy Williams and wife, Wanda, have donated more than $600,000 to fund the scholarships for spring sports seniors who were granted an extra year of eligibility (2020-21) after the 2020 spring season was canceled due to COVID-19.
UNC announces Roy Williams and his wife, Wanda, donated more than $600,000 in May to fund scholarships of spring sports seniors whose seasons were cut short due to the coronavirus but will be returning to UNC to compete in 2020-21. Huge commitment.

Back in March, the NCAA made the decision to allow an additional year of eligibility for senior spring athletes — those that had the final season of their eligibility cut short. That’s great and all; however, it takes money to fund those scholarships. And for UNC, this is where Roy and Wanda Williams stepped up.
In a statement, North Carolina Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham expressed how this idea came about: “Only a handful of people at the University knew what Roy and Wanda had done to support our students. He called me in March the day the NCAA canceled all spring championships. He didn’t want those students to miss the experience and wanted to fund those scholarships for next year.”
Thank you, Coach and Mrs. Williams 👏👏👏
