Virginia Tech recruiting shorts–Settle is a Hokie

TIM SETTLE ADMITTED TO VIRGINIA TECH

After months of waiting, 4-star defensive tackle Tim Settle was finally admitted to Virginia Tech. The 6-2, 361 signee out of Manassas, Virginia’s Stonewall Jackson High had struggled to qualify for admission. The Hokies’ class of 2015 had already lost a pair of signees to non-qualification, but the decision on Settle allowed Tech to retain the best player in its recruiting class. Settle tweeted out the news on July 13, announcing, “Officially a Hokie. Can’t wait to be with my teammates in August. #HokieNation.”

HOKIES OFFER KELDON JOHNSON

Virginia Tech offered a prolific scorer in the class of 2018. Keldon Johnson, a 6-4 wing player out of Park View, Virginia, set the Virginia state record for freshman scoring last season, breaking a record that had stood for 63 years. He averaged 26.8 points and scored 40 in the second game of his high-school career. Johnson’s older brother, Kaleb, signed with Georgetown and will be a freshman with the Hoyas this year.

VIRGINIA TECH OFFERS PG RASIR BOLTON

The Hokies extended a scholarship offer to point guard Rasir Bolton, a teammate of Keldon Johnson’s on the Team Loaded AAU squad. The 6-1, 165-poiund playmaker out of South Chesterfield, Virginia, is, like Johnson, a member of the class of 2018. The Hokies are the first major program to take notice. Bolton previously had an offer from Richmond.

HOKIES MISS ON WILL PUTNAM

Class of 2016 offensive tackle Will Putnam chose South Carolina over Virginia Tech on July 14. Putnam, a 6-5, 270-pounder out of Harrisburg, North Carolina’s Hickory Ridge High had narrowed his list down to the Hokies and Gamecocks. Putnam had also attended Larry Fedora’s Freak Show at UNC in June, but the Tar Heels didn’t offer him a scholarship.
