During the 2019 season, it must have felt like a game of musical chairs in Virginia Tech’s quarterback room. Ultimately, though, Hendon Hooker stabilized the position for the Hokies. Now, it’s no surprise that Justin Fuente has named the redshirt junior from Greensboro as his Week 1 starter.
While seeing time in 11 games, including eight starts, Hooker completed 99-of-162 pass attempts (61.1 percent) for 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions. The 6-foot-4 Hooker also carried the ball 123 times for 356 yards with five touchdowns.
Braxton Burmeister, who transferred in from Oregon and took a redshirt in 2019, will also see some playing time at quarterback when Virginia Tech opens its 2020 season against Virginia on Sept. 19.

Fuente is working to find ways to involve Quincy Patterson, another quarterback who competed for the starting job this offseason, too. Patterson was instrumental as a runner during Virginia Tech’s win over UNC last October.
