Underrated 2021 RB Malachi Thomas commits to Virginia Tech

Malachi Thomas is headed to Blacksburg.

On Wednesday morning, Virginia Tech landed a commitment from Thomas, an unranked 2021 running back out of Georgia.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Thomas doesn’t have much of a national profile, but his prep numbers are prodigious. Thomas received a total of 13 scholarship offers; in the end, however, he picked the Hokies over Duke, Kansas State, Central Florida and Appalachian State. (Duke made a recent push for Thomas, but fell short in landing a commitment.)

During the 2019 season at Hart County HS, Thomas ran for 1,942 yards. For the season, Thomas posted 2,862 all-purpose yards and 36 touchdowns.

Virginia Tech’s 2021 recruiting class is now up to 15 players, including a recent commitment from 4-star cornerback DJ Harvey. Assembling this group has been no small task for Justin Fuente and his staff. Currently, VT’s 2021 class ranks 48th nationally, 12th among ACC programs.
