Roy Williams, UNC basketball issue statements regarding the postponed Miami game

Roy Williams and North Carolina basketball have issued statements regarding the team’s postponement of Monday’s game vs. Miami. The statements come one day after video surfaced of Day’Ron Sharpe and Armando Bacot celebrating Saturday’s win over Duke — at a party without masks.

According to reports, the Miami team felt comfortable playing against UNC after the video was made public; in a release from the ACC, the decision to postpone was mutually agreed upon.

The statement from UNC players and managers states that they intended to have a smaller, closed-door gathering to celebrate the win over Duke that night; however, several “friends” — not members of the team — joined as well. The group admitted that it was a mistake to be together indoors sans masks, too.

Williams and members of the team both stressed how long of an endeavor that season has been — going back eight months now. According to Williams, those who are at fault will pay a “very significant price.”
