Back in the middle of May, 4-star quarterback Malik Hornsby committed to UNC and Mack Brown. However, a little over a month later, Hornsby has flipped; the Texas prospect has decommitted from the Tar Heels.
Inside Carolina was the first to report to the story. 247 Sports rates Hornsby as a top-100 prospect in the 2020 class, and the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback.

Initially, Hornsby picked UNC over a host of other programs, including Texas A&M, Alabama and Auburn. Hornsby made the announcement official of his Twitter account:
At this time, I would like to announce that I am re-opening my recruiting process. This is a life-changing decision for me and I have to get it right. After talking with my family and praying on this lifetime decision, I would like to say thank you to the UNC family for all the support they have done the past month. There is no love lost for UNC but I have to do what’s best for my family. I have no top school right now.
In the 2019 class, North Carolina added 4-star in-state quarterback prospect Sam Howell.
