UNC Basketball will make 2018 preseason trip to the Bahamas

According to a report from Inside Carolina, UNC basketball has a preseason trip in store, too. Prior to the 2018-19 season, the Tar Heels will trek down to the Bahmas. In mid-August (17-18), North Carolina will participate in the Bahamas Basketball Federation’s “Summer of Thunder” event.

College teams are allowed to make one of these preseason trips every four years; back in 2014, UNC basketball — with freshmen Theo Pinson, Joel Berry and Justin Jackson — went to the Bahamas, too.

In that last trip, North Carolina actually lost one of the exhibition games: 84-83 against the Providence Storm. That storm team featured future Arizona star Deandre Ayton, a projected top-3 pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

Plenty of other notable college programs have participated in this event in recent years, including ACC teams Wake Forest, Boston College and Georgia Tech.

Similar to 2014, UNC has a top-15 signing class of three incoming players: 5-stars Nassir Little and Coby White, and 4-star Rechon Black.

Elsewhere in the Triangle

North Carolina won’t be the only ACC team making a preseason trip later this summer/fall. Around the same time, Duke basketball will head north to Canada for an exhibition series, too.
