Oh, yes, it’s everyone’s favorite sports experience, once again: the seemingly constant postponement and/or cancellation of games due to COVID-19.
As COVID-19 cases surge across the country, the sports world is among the many industries taking a hit, unfortunately.
Within the ACC, North Carolina’s matchup in Las Vegas with UCLA this Saturday was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns with the Bruins. However, UNC quickly reworked the schedule and will now play Kentucky.
The Wildcats were set to play Ohio State in Las Vegas, too. Of course, that game was dashed due to COVID cases around the Ohio State program.
Syracuse postponed two games earlier on Friday, too. According to reports, several Syracuse players tested positive for the virus.
Initially, Duke was scheduled to play Cleveland State this Saturday (Dec. 18). That, however, fell through due to COVID concerns within the Cleveland State program. Duke responded by adding a replacement game with Loyola Md.; however, one day later, that game was also postponed due to COVID cases in the Loyola program.
After a few hours of work and a couple of phone calls, Duke added a game with Elon.
The Phoenix are coached by Mike Schrage, who spent nine seasons at Duke. First, the program’s recruiting coordinator (1999-02), then as the director of basketball operations (2002-08).
