Kevin Keatts and NC State Basketball have landed a commitment from one of the top in-state players in the 2020 recruiting class. Cam Hayes, a 4-star point guard from Greensboro (N.C.), committed to NC State late Friday afternoon. The news broke just a few hours after NC State and Keatts announced a new contract extension, too.
Hayes, who stands 6-foot-1 (160 pounds), was previously in the 2021 recruiting class; however, he elected to reclassify last Sunday. Now, 247 Sports has Hayes as the No. 46 overall prospect in the site’s composite rankings. Hayes is the second commit in NC State’s 2020 class — joining 3-star forward Nick Farrar, another in-state prospect.

Hayes, who also had offers from Louisville, Florida State Clemson and Maryland, took an official visit to NC State on Sept. 6. Hayes helped leaded Greensboro Day School to a state title in 2019. For Keatts, Hayes is the highest-ranked point guard commit of his time as a college coach.
With his reclassification and commitment, NC State looks to have its heir apparent to Markell Johnson at the point guard position. (Get ready for a lot of high ball screens, Cam Hayes.)
