Mike Summey returns to NC State, hired as assistant coach

According to a note from Jeff Goodman of Stadium, NC State will hire Mike Summey as an assistant coach for its basketball staff.

Summey, who spend the last five seasons on Michael Huger’s staff at Bowling Green (2015-20), will replace former NC State assistant Takayo Siddle. Back in March, Siddle became the head coach of UNC Wilmington, replacing CB McGrath, a former Roy Williams assistant at UNC.

Before his arrival at Bowling Green, Summey also worked as assistant coach with Saint Francis (Pa.), across two different stings (1999-2003, 2013-15) and was previously the Director of Basketball Operations for the University of Miami (2009-13).

After two years on staff at North Florida (2006-08), Summey became the head coach of Bethany College (W. Va.) for the 2008-09 season. Summey’s travels have also included a stop at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C. as the top assistant during the 2003-04 season.

This is a homecoming of sorts, too. Summey, who hails from Hickory, N.C., is a 1997 graduate of NC State. While at NC State, Summey was the served as the head manage for the men’s basketball program. Upon graduation, Summey spent the next two years as a graduate manager for Herb Sendek and NC State.

Goodman also noted that Keatts will hire Steve Snell as his director of basketball operations and Chris Zupko as assistant director of basketball operations.
