NC State assistant Takayo Siddle hired to be next coach at UNC Wilmington

After three seasons in Raleigh with Kevin Keatts, NC State assistant coach Takayo Siddle is head back to UNC Wilmington. Siddle will be become the next head coach for the men’s basketball program.

The relationship between Siddle, 33, and Keatts goes back several years; even before Siddle worked with Keatts, he played prep basketball for him at Hargrave Military Academy. Siddle went on to play college basketball at Gardner-Webb (2005-09). After that, Siddle worked as an assistant at Gardner-Webb for four seasons.

Prior to the start of the 2014-15 season, he joined the staff at UNC Wilmington.

Keatts, of course, left UNCW in 2017, after taking the program to two straight NCAA Tournaments. To replace Keatts, UNCW hired former UNC assistant coach C.B. McGrath. Siddle followed Keatts to NC State after the 2016-17 season.

During his two and a half seasons with the Seahawks, McGrath posted a record of 26-58. He was fired in January, during the middle of the 2019-20 season.
