Mack Brown continues to get it done at UNC; the commitment of Malaki Hamrick bring another 4-star, in-state prospect into the fold in Chapel Hill.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Hamrick is a 4-star outside linebacker/edge rusher. Hamrick, who hails from talent-rich Shelby, ranks as the No. 10 outside linebacker in the 2022 class, according to 247 Sports; he’s a consensus top-150 recruit, too.
North Carolina’s 2022 recruiting class is up to four commits now; Hamrick is the first from North Carolina. The other three commits come from the state of Virginia, another key target area for UNC. That group includes 4-star wide receiver Tychaun Chapman, who was the first 2022 commitment, back on Dec. 19. After that, the Tar Heels also added 4-star cornerback Tayon Holloway and 3-star offensive tackle Trevyon Green.
During his sophomore season at Shelby High, Hamrick recorded 129 tackles, 39 tackles for loss, 19 sacks, two blocked punts, a fumble recovery and an interception brought back for a touchdown. Simply put: he’s good at football.
While Hamrick is the first in-state commit, he certainly won’t be the last, especially if the 2021 recruiting cycle is any indicator.
