When will Duke’s prized freshmen return?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As the ACC’s coaches and top players gathered in Charlotte to celebrate the start of the 2016-17 basketball season, the league’s projected top team dealt with turbulence.

Duke is the No. 1 team in the nation and the pick to win the ACC. Yet the Blue Devils will finalize their preseason work without freshmen Harry Giles and Jayson Tatum, who are both sidelined with injuries.

Giles has been out since undergoing arthroscopic left knee surgery on Oct. 3. Tatum sprained his left foot in practice Tuesday.
