As the Justin Fuente era in Blacksburg gets going with the upcoming spring football season, a lot of people are wondering who will emerge as Virginia Tech’s new starting quarterback. The Hokies relied on Michael Brewer, a transfer, the last couple of seasons, as Frank Beamer played out his legendary tenure at his alma mater.
Though Brewer kept the Hokies going to bowl games and competitive in the ACC Coastal Division, there’s no question that there was a sense of under-achievement in his reign as starting quarterback, even if much of it wasn’t his fault.
But with a new coaching staff comes a new opportunity — a clean slate for the returning Virginia Tech quarterbacks, as well as an open opportunity for two incoming Hokie signal-callers to potentially fight for the starting job. Needless to say, it’s going to be a fascinating March and April in Blacksburg as the program moves in its new direction.
