Duke thought it had a pair of athletic wide receivers to anchor its 2017 football recruiting class.
That was until Gavin Holmes, a 5-11, 3-star player from Justin, Texas, announced on Twitter Wednesday night that was he backing off the commitment he made to the Blue Devils on May 30.
Holmes wrote that he has “nothing but love for Duke University” and thanked head coach David Cutcliffe and wide receivers coach Jeff Faris for “believing in me from the get-go.”
