As the NCAA Tournament’s second round (Round of 64) gets underway Thursday, we at ACCSports.com provide our final Power Rankings of the 2014-2015 season.
- Notre Dame’s triumph at the ACC Tournament certainly solidified their place among the league’s best, but our staff still believes that Duke and Virginia’s body of work during the regular season justifies the top two spots in our rankings. Duke received a four-way unanimous No. 1 vote from our staff — consistent with its No. 1 seed in the South Region — while Virginia received the No. 2 spot. The Cavaliers are the No. 2 seed in the South Region. The Fighting Irish were a unanimous No. 3 selection with our staff, and the No. 3 seed in the Midwest.
- North Carolina, Louisville, and NC State, the ACC’s other three NCAA squads, round out our top six. The Tar Heels, the No. 4 seed in the West Region, received our No. 4 spot unanimously, while Louisville, the fourth seed in the East, received a unanimous No. 5 and the Wolfpack, the No. 8 in the East, received a four-way vote for sixth. The last of the consistencies among our staff was with Miami, the four-way No. 7 school who just missed the Big Dance.
- The bottom half of our rankings are more varied among our staff. Three voters (Carroll, Moore, Powell) voted Syracuse No. 8, while one staff member (Krest) selected Pittsburgh. Krest selected Syracuse ninth, while the other three selected Florida State. Krest had the Seminoles 10th.
- Everyone picked Georgia Tech dead-last at 15th, while two selected Wake Forest 14th (Powell, Krest) and two picked Virginia Tech (Carroll, Moore). Interestingly enough, the Demon Deacons and Hokies were also split for No. 12, with Powell and Krest taking the Hokies, and Carroll and Moore taking the Demon Deacons. Boston College was a unanimous choice for No. 13 in our rankings.
