With work still to be done to put together the 2017 recruiting class, Duke’s staff is making progress in attracting top players from the 2018 class as well.
Zion Williamson, a 6-7 power forward from Spartanburg, S.C., is considered among the top five players in the class. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and all three assistant coaches — Jeff Capel, Jon Scheyer and Nate James — watched Williamson practice at Spartanburg Day School last month.
“(Krzyzewski) told me I can play the one through four positions,” Williamson told the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. “He said I can help Duke basketball. He told me about academics and how Duke is second to none and that they want me to come there.”
